On the Path to Beautiful

Imagine This Scenario

At last, T&T found the perfect tile for their new kitchen! It had taken weeks of on-line research, visiting local tile showrooms and ordering samples. They visualized and pondered all the options. At last, one tile stood out among all others. It was pricey, but they decided to splurge.

Fast forward to a few months later - the tile installer has finished the backsplash and is giving it a final cleaning. T&T can’t wait for this kitchen remodel to be done. Enjoying some champagne, they stand to admire a masterful installation of their beautiful, new, and expensive tile backsplash. Their stomachs drop…something’s just not right. The tile just doesn’t look as great as they thought it would. In fact, it looks more like a mistake…and a very expensive one at that. How could this have happened?!

Can you relate? Have you ever faced your own less-than-fabulous results? Painful, to say the least. But no worries here, T&T’s story has a happy ending.

Expecting that they’d have to completely re-do their new tile backsplash, T&T decided to get some professional help in selecting a different tile. A designer’s perspective at this point would be a good idea.

A Different Kind of Luxury Service

A common misconception when it comes to interior design services is that a project must begin with an empty room and a sizable budget. You entrust a design firm to create a completely new, well-coordinated space for you with furnishings, finishes and style. This describes a full-service interior design. It’s a luxury service that gets the job done saving you time, energy and mistakes.

But what about a different kind of luxury service, one that helps you get out of the weeds and solve a design problem you’re facing? A mistake you made, or maybe one you inherited from a former homeowner?

Although T&T weren’t in a rush to fix the expensive tile mistake, they wanted things to feel right. They were happy about everything else in their new kitchen – well, almost everything. The stain color on the new cabinetry turned out a bit too red. The glass in the wall cabinets looked a bit plain. They wanted a different light fixture over the kitchen table and the window valances needed to change.

This is when I joined T&T on their project.

After our initial design consultation, T, T & I took a critical look at all the design elements in their kitchen. We discussed how they related to one another and what was most important to them. Our discussions helped clarify what needed to change and what didn’t. We considered other tiles for the backsplash, paint colors, lighting, fabrics, new counter stools. Everything was on the table. Eventually, this process revealed a gorgeous path forward and a kitchen that T&T are really excited about.  Of course, I am too! The best part -drumroll here- the tile backsplash is staying put! I look forward to sharing pictures of the happy results in the coming months so stay tuned.
