Unstuck and Beautiful
Experiencing Design in 4 Dimensions
Might this be you?
She was determined to break free of the beige in her life - and before hosting book club! After months of research, pinning and bookmarking all sorts of pages, she went to the paint store. Was it to be “Ether Coal” and “Arctic Terron''?
With the last sip of her latte, she finally decided on “Smudge”.
A gallon of paint and two weekends later, she stood back to admire her impeccable work. Simply gorgeous. Current. Sophisticated. And ready to host book club. All she needed now was a few new pillows to dress up the sofa...or maybe it was her sofa that looked out of place with the new walls...or maybe that cute vase collection was what the room needed?
Or Maybe…
They had done their homework and had put together an impressive file box full of ideas and pages clipped from Architectural Digest and Dwell. They had their room measurements, plans and fabric swatches. Savvy online researchers to boot, they had thoroughly prepared for this renovation. They had money in the bank and were ready to roll ….and they were still stuck, not knowing what they really liked or where to begin the journey.
Or even yet…
Just like the kids, the pile of shoes inside the front door just kept growing. Backpacks dribbled out their contents across the family room. The process of coming and going was always something to trip over. The clutter of necessities was simply getting out of hand. If only, if only for a mudroom!
See yourself in any of these scenarios?
You’re obviously not alone. Creating a home takes a lot of thought and intention. It’s a basic problem we humans solve, sometimes with a beautifully visualized end in sight, sometimes not. And there’s no one right way to go about it.
Regardless of how you acquire furnishings and décor and gather the inspiration to design your home, the challenge always begins within your own walls. Context is everything. A moment of truth happens when you introduce something new. Whether you’re considering a paint color or knocking down a wall, you’re creating a personal world in the context of a particular space. Again, context is everything. When it comes right down to it, the context of your home is naturally very complex.
4Dimensional design relates directly to the specific context of your home and your life. It’s about how beautifully everything goes together and how effectively it works for you within your walls. It’s not just the pretty picture on a screen or in a magazine. Because it’s so personal, 4D requires going below the surface and stepping away from fleeting trends. With 4D design you’re creating an experience that’s more than the sum of its parts, synchronizing comfort, beauty, and function for your everyday life. Why go to all the trouble? -Of course, to make life better!
Is your head spinning yet?
