If Walls Could Speak
Imagine the quarantine stories our homes would tell!
Our homes have been our superheroes this past year. Overnight they became schools, offices, studios, music halls, rec centers and full time restaurants. I imagine them breathing great sighs of relief each night as their humans finally unplug, tuck in and turn off the lights.
After months of quarantine and social distancing, you’ve probably gotten to know your home on a very intimate level. You’ve grown acutely aware of how well your space is meeting your needs, what’s comfortable, what’s not. What’s in need of repair, an update, or a bit of TLC. Perhaps you’ve been re-imagining a room, or dreaming of an entirely new space. The truth is, even in “normal” times, homes require tending. One thing’s for sure - while we’ve been staying put, they’ve certainly gotten our attention.
The pandemic has turned up the volume, so listen and take note! What has your home been telling you? Let me suggest that it’s not the walls speaking out - it’s you. The part of you that is yearning to create more order, comfort and beauty in your life. The part of you wishing for more space, better lighting, or a perhaps even a little more style and inspiration to put your day in gear.
The fact is, our homes have always played an essential role in nurturing human health and well-being. They’re not just 4 walls around us and roofs overhead; they’re expressions of who we are. They’re protection, support and identity. Talk about influence!
Creating a home with spaces that nourish and restore is not new to the interior design industry. Drum roll…we now have empirical data that reveals how valuable the role of interior design is to human health. The numbers tell all.
Research now shows that entering a strategically well-designed space has the ability to raise our serotonin levels -which contribute to happiness, mood regulation, digestion, and even improved sleep. Who doesn’t want that? Artistry Interior Design works closely with the concepts of color therapy, neuro-aesthetics, ecotherapy, biophilic design, and environmental psychology, which infuse design with wellness.
